January 18th

1. How effective was your plan concerning the Eskimo Olympics? What worked? What didn't work? Would you do something different if you had the opportunity to do some of the sports again?
2. How was your performance? Did you make your goal? How did you work with the other people in class?

A part of my plan was very effective and it did some improvements. Practising and remember my high score from before was helpful. During the weekend when I was working out and spend a few minutes also practicing the seal jump. I got in the position and practiced jumping in that position. I didn't get to spend a lot of time on it but it still helped me today. I didn't feel as nervous and I managed to push myself to go further then I expected. I somehow kept on forgetting about keeping a score, so I guess that didn't work much. I remembered my high score but I didn't really note down anything. I also spent more time looking at pictures than videos, so maybe if I watched some youtube videos I would get a better look at it.
If I had to do this again I would spend more time practicing and trying out more than only 3 of the sports.

My performance went well and I wish I signed up for more sports. I worked well with the other people in the class but next time I think I should be more supportive. I think it would have been better if I stood there with others than going to and practicing.

I had 2 goals:

1 - beat my high score (700 cm)
I don't know if I got to beat my high score because it didn't get measured but I know for sure I went really far. So I might have gone further than just 700 cm. I wasn't expecting to go so far.

2 - When I feel like giving up, keep going at least a bit more.
I actually achieved this goal and I am really happy. I wasn't getting tired but I kept on thinking I couldn't get far, so I was so close to collapsing. I stopped and then decided to carry on, until I really couldn't take it. I think stopping and breathing really helps.

Starting of new unit! ***imo Olympics.

Today was the first P.E lesson in 2016!

We have started with the new P.E unit and its...Eskimo Olympic Sport (?). It went way better than I expected and I really enjoyed it. I find it interesting to look into a sport from another culture. We had around 10 different activities that Dywer set for us. Most of them were without equipment apart from mats. I found most of the hard and requires practice, well everything does. My favourite one was the Seal Jump. It did hurt my knuckles and it the day after I was sore but I still enjoyed it. I managed to go far and I wasn't expecting it. I think it was a great workout.

  1. Make a plan for how you are going to get better at the sports you were introduced to for the Eskimo Olympics. What is your plan for improving your physical performance and health? Please explain. How effective is your plan going to be? Explain the challenges and how you are going to overcome these.

I am planning on first looking at videos and doing some research on how they are performed correctly. I want to get a better look a them first. I will also be practicing at home and noting down how far I have come so I can improve. I also want to eat healthier, maybe. I will be setting goals and probably noting them down.

  2. What do you learn about the Eskimo culture by playing their sports? What could someone learn about your culture from your sports?

By playing their sports we can learn a lot about their skills and how they did their daily challenges, like hunting. We can learn about how they managed their lives and if the sport helped them, which they probably did. Like how here in Norway skiing is one thing that brings people together and how its apart of their routine.

TRAUMA DAY!!

On the 18th of September, on Friday we had TRAUMA DAY!

Trauma day is when we are going to have a more realistic CPR experience. Its with the whole MYP and the teachers who are there to help and organize. We have class being the patients, a class being first responder, a class doing the filming, and a class doing the grading. We are put in different groups that have people form every class. I was in a group with Monika, Persis, Hannah, Simran, Atilia, Carmen, Selma, Alexander, Benjamin, and Josefine.

Here is what we had:

First responders - They were the ones that were going to do the ABC. They had the first aid kit and they were going to treat the injured people.

Patients - (aka injured people) They got a piece of paper that had written what their injured were and how they are going be acting. Some were dead and some had things sticking in their bodies. And they were taken away behind the woods.

Filming - The filming was basically filming what was going on. people who were going to film, had to chose a specific person to film while they were doing the first responder job.

Grading - We also had people grading others works. They graded the first responder. They checked to see if they did the ABC properly and if they knew how to handle the situation.

When I was being a first responder I felt a lot stressed, since there was someone filming and grading me. When I was being a patient it was fun, especially since I was the annoying person that walked around trying to help but I was making things worse. Filming and grading was okay too, but grading was kind of hard. Sometime I was not sure what the person was doing.

When I was being a first responder, I was helping Atila (in MYP A) first. Someone crashed into him at this ski slope, so he got very badly injured and had a ski stick through his leg. He was in pain. He wasn't in shock that much, but his head was also hurting. What me and Hannah did first was wrap a bandage and a cloth around his leg and the ski stick. We wrapped it in a x form. I also wrapped some tape around his thigh hardly, to stop or slow down the bleeding. I learn this from the P.E lessons we had. I remember we had this one time where Inga had a stick in her arm and the first thing I did was pull it out. I found out that is NOT what you are supposed to do.

One thing I forgot which is the most important thing is that I should have first checked around me. Atila was actually still on the ski slope or hill thing, and I forgot all about that. We should have carried him to the side, but also there were many people confused about the location. We couldn't really tell if they were in the way or to the side. It was confusing.

We also had Selma which we had to carry and lay her down because of her broken back. What really sucked was that our group was not always working together. We had two people on one person and then we had to carry someone but no one came. It took like 5 minutes for them to come help us carry Selma.

I wasn't expecting trauma day to be this fun. I thought it was going to be a bit boring and tiring. I actually enjoyed it a lot and used what I had learnt from the P.E lessons. I am looking forward to more activites like this, but not in winter. I can't deal with that. I hate winter.

What I think I could have done better is thinking more back to what we learnt in P.E class, and checking the surrounding first. I kept on forgetting that.  I also wish I graded better. It was probably very un-detailed.

14.09.15

Today we played this new game, Frisbee Golf. I liked it a lot better than Ultimate Frisbee. It was like going to an adventure which made it more. I am starting to like Frisbee a lot more. I hope we also play some team sports, like Football.

I am looking forward to trauma day and I am going to try my very best to be serious.

Today when we did our CPR practice, I was one of the injured people. Our group got a little confused at the instructions. What I learnt today that when someone is Hypothermia, be gentle and it is a long process to get the person warmed up. Here are a few things I need to make sure I remember for trauma day:

1. Don't shake or rub someone when they're having Hypothermia. It takes a while to get them warmed up.

2. Do 3 sets of pumping the chest. ( 30 pumps)

3. Place your hands in between the persons chest.

4. First remember, to tilt the persons head back.

5. Always, check your surrounding. And also make you are safe.

6. Try to get as much as information if the injured person can talk.

7.09.15

Today we did another around of first aid. this time the situation was different and we had no blood. We had some dunk teenagers biking down a hill and then flew over their bikes, went through a wire fence, and landed on the ground with some puke.

One of them lost two fingers, and the other one broke or snapped their thigh bone. What I found hard and confusing was the finger missing. Do you go look after it? Or do you just leave it somewhere out there?

We played ultimate frisbee again but this time we were in smaller groups.

Here are some pictures:

31.08.15

first P.E lesson:

Today we did the first aid thing and it was interesting. I am glad we are going to continue with this because I still need to learn some major things. We were into groups of 4 and one person from our group was going to get "injured". I was in a group with Inga, Dennis, and Linus. Inga was the "injured". Our challenge/task was too help out Inga as if this was in a real situation. We had to do the a.b.c, which is airway, breathing and circulation.

Checking airway: The victim needs to be in right position first, so roll the person onto their back. make sure their hands are down by their sides and his back and legs are straight. the head needs to move so place one hand behind head and one under chin. then you need to tilt their head backwards towards the sky.

Checking breathing:  you need to check if the person is breathing or not. See if the chest is rising. if the person is gasping to breath or not breathing properly, treat this as not breathing and check for circulation.

Checking circulation:

Once you find that he is not breathing, you need to check to see if his blood is still circulating. On the lifted area of the chin, place your index and middle fingers to the groove in the neck. Slip your fingers into the groove there. This is the carotid artery and should provide a strong pulse if his blood is circulating well.

We also played around of ultimate frisbee. I've played frisbee before but not like this one. It was okay but I hope I get to like it more next time because I have a feel we're going to play this game often.
